Getting Fit….even at Disney World

So next week my wife and I (the loser) will set out with our 3 kids, bound for Disney World. First family vacation (sad really), and we are all beyond excited. As I was talking to a friend this week about my journey to health and fitness, this blog, etc, the subject of our Disney trip came up. “What’s your plan for staying on track”, he asked (blank stare from me). “You have to have a plan”, he continued. “Do you think successful leaders wake up and wonder what they’re going to do that day?” (well no). “You have to be intentional about this process, even when you’re out of your normal routine”, he reminds me. Intentional. Crap, I knew that. I need a plan.

HAVE A PLAN

The key thing I’ve learned so far is that when I don’t have a plan, I don’t eat right and I skip workouts. This does not help me be  a LOSER.  When the gym bag is packed at 4:30 AM and so are my meals for the day, it’s a lot easier to stay on “the plan”. SO, the first step for me (and you) is to be INTENTIONAL about my vacation plan. I am working on looking at all the restaurant menus on our meal plan, to know AHEAD OF TIME what their healthy options are, so that when I’m starving and tired of  “daddy I wanna see Mickey”, I don’t let a rack of ribs and fries break my fall off the wagon.

So here’s my plan so far:

1. Look up restaurant menus to assess healthy options this week. (I found a TON of helpful info over at http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/)

2. Drink water. All the time. Lots of it. Soda doesn’t hydrate, neither does beer.

3. Pushups, situps, and squats in the room every night/morning (plenty of walking to be had all week).

4. Blog mid-week next week with a progress report from the “House of Mouse”.

Hey, it’s not a well-developed plan, but it’s what I’ve got so far. Check back with me next week to see how things are going, and I should have some more specific tips after a few days in the park!
